The
newest, and as far as I know, only, shiloh has arrived in Montana!
Burgundy girl will now be known as "Majestic's Faithful Girl"
or more commonly, Faith.
Faith was an amazing trooper on the ride up here--by
the time we got her at about 9pm MST, I realized she had been
traveling for about 20 hours--she drank lots of water in the car,
at all of the kibble I brought, slept, tried to chew on various
car parts (gear shift, seatbelt, etc.), but was easily persuaded
to chew on a rope toy instead. If she had to go potty, she just
cried a little, and we pulled over and did our business.
When I got to Missoula, she immediately met my
friends/neighbors, and started exploring--she is an independent
girl! My friend Jed immediately commented that "she was a
smart one" --very alert and interested in the dog next door,
Henry (I am surrounded by four labs--bella (age 7mo), Mac (age
4yr), henry (age 10mo), and Darla (age 10 mo.)--Faith will have
lots of playmates!
I just fed her, and now she is in her kennel,
howling up a storm right behind me--I figured I would get the
howl-fest over BEFORE I tried to go to sleep--so far she has settled
down twice, only to get a second wind--I think the next minute
or two will see her settling down for a bit. Somehow, I don't
think I will get much interupted sleep tonight. I decided at one
point I was crazy to drive 1100 miles to pick her up at the airport--now
I am thinking it was worth every mile (despite the howling).

September 29, 2003
Hi everyone--
Sorry it has been so long
since I gave an update on Faith--School started at the beginning
of September, and it has been crazy busy
ever since.
Faith continues to grow,
seemingly without end--I am reasonable sure that if I measured
her legs, (or her nose) that it would be longer at night than
it was in the morning! Her ears are huge, and after being up for
a month, the left one has fallen back over, but comes up off and
on throughout the day. Her adult hair seems to be growing in patches
and starting to spread out gradually and she has this strange
bald spot on her nose--not sure if it is from a bee sting or not.
It has been unseasonable
warm here in Montana this month, but todays shows promise of fall
weather, so Faith should be happy about the cooler temperatures--she
surely does not like heat! She surely does love water...Last night
I had just finished mopping all of the floors in my house, and
faith had been amusing herself outside, where I had left a sprinkler
on low to water a tree...I heard Faith come tearing into the house,
run through the kitchen, and on into the living room, but didn't
look up....10 seconds later she was on the return trip out the
dog door...10 seconds after that I casually looked up and noted
the streaks of mud extending from the dog door, through the kitchen,
and onto the living room rug! Apparently, the wet mulch under
the tree was too much to resist--so much fun to dig in and get
REALLY wet and muddy! I just gave up at that point. Maybe I will
start mopping the floors again next year.
Interestingly enough, Faith
is demonstrating a really high level of prey drive--she is interested
in chasing everything-- cats, squirrels, joggers, toys. We are
spending most of our training time on breaking her attention of
whatever is running (or might run, in the case of the cat) bringing
it back onto me on command--she is doing well, but unlike Rory,
I am pretty sure she would have done more than look at chickens
given the chance... Its hard to be a puppy!
